The Yukon Arctic Ultra is a non-stop multiday ultra race that take place concurrently beginning in Whitehorse, Yukon at the beginning of February each year. The marathon, 100/300/430 mile races follow the course of the Yukon Quest. The longer races have three disciplines: mountain bike, xc-skis or foot. The race is billed as the toughest and coldest ultramarathon in the world where the temperatures can drop to -50 degrees plus wind chill. The race was founded in 2003 and has run every year since except 2010.
We took part in YAU 2014, Jan did 100 miles and Petra ran marathon. After finishing his 100 miler, Jan said that "Never ever again something like this". And here we go, never ever again probably means even longer and harder next time. So in 2015 Jan is going to do 430 miles and Petra 100 miles. It is part of their honeymoon.
Start of the race is on February 8th in Whitehorse.
There will be two checkpoints during first 100 miles.
Time limit for 100 miles is 3 days and for 430 miles it is 13 days.
Time limit for 100 miles is 3 days and for 430 miles it is 13 days.
After 100 miles we say good bye to each other, kiss and hug and Jan will keep going alone, direction north another 330miles to Dawson city, through Yukon wilderness. Every participant will have SPOT tracker on, so it will be easy to follow progress in comfy chair with hot coffee. Link for online tracking is in right side corner of the web page, but will be activated on February 8th.. Yukon is wild so it is good to watch out:)
